A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
