Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
