Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in power within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
