Followers Call for Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the pop star are demanding that a man who leaped a barrier and seized the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade surrounded by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being arrested", though official papers indicated that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account includes recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in June this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the city last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
Some attendees also questioned guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some requested digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it started.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the well-known stage musical Wicked, which centers on the unlikely relationship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten Oscar nominations, winning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
