Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities issued video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
