In the dying moments, pure elation erupted for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and handed the stand-in Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's crucial intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Glaring Contrast in Pedigree

On the City bench stood the most decorated manager of his time, a man with an unparalleled CV for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, stood a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his first-team debut after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, most notably Chelsea's key midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed Mission: Impossible.
