President Trump Invites Relatives of Injured Guard Personnel to White House
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to support policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the head of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to help others.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Policy Adjustments
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the government to pause refugee claims and halt issuing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader the governor stated on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she aimed to visit the family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” Morrisey told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
