Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his position after a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot lamented familiar failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
