Tehran States It May Rejoin US Atomic Talks if Treated with 'Dignity' and 'Respect'
Tehran is prepared to reinitiate nuclear negotiations with the United States on condition that it is handled with "respect" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has announced.
The Iranian diplomat declared only diplomacy worked, and disclosed fresh requests had originated from mediators to restart talks with the American leadership. He asserted Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Iran had not yet reached a point to allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to visit struck enrichment centers for security reasons.
Navigating a Complex Route
Araghchi is treading a difficult path since Iran wishes not to be perceived to be proceeding from a stance of weakness, and he emphatically stated that Iran had come out stronger defensively and mentally from the Israeli-US attack on its atomic facilities in June.
He was addressing at a defense forum in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to process nuclear material domestically that it will never give up" – the key factor of the impasse in the earlier negotiations.
Earlier Negotiations Unexpectedly Ended
The prior phases of talks between the US and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious conclusion on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, struck Iranian nuclear sites in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with Donald Trump asserting the facilities had been destroyed. Following this, Western states exercised their right to reimpose international penalties, but Iran maintains they have not had a significant effect.
Perfect Agreement Proposed
Tehran representatives stated they felt they had achieved a "perfect agreement" to the nuclear fuel concern in prior discussions, when it was decided an Iran-based consortium with Washington's engagement could enrich uranium. The two nations would have been able to claim victory since home-based processing would have remained and the US could be certain that Iran's atomic project was entirely non-military.
It had not been settled in the negotiations that US nuclear scientists could operate on Iranian soil, but that was a logical implication of the consortium proposal. Representatives stated three times they had reached agreement with the US representative Steve Witkoff only for the agreement to disintegrate due to "opponents in the US".
Present Position
Iran's diplomats said the partnership proposal was now no longer available, but it seems highly likely the suggestion could be revived in certain ways if talks reopen.
The American leader last week claimed he had been receiving messages that Iran sought to restart talks, but privately Tehran representatives state they are not yet getting consistent overtures from the United States either straightforwardly or from key regional mediators, such as Qatar, the Egyptian leadership, Oman and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been criticized of non-responsiveness in the face of Trump's direct instinctive approach, but Tehran states negotiations is not part of a spectacle.
Political Stance
In his speech to the forum, aimed to paint the US as a hegemonic power that exploits the idea of global regulations, the foreign minister said the 12-day war revealed the dispute could not be resolved by armed force. He asserted the assaults started with a US demand for an total Iran submission and culminated with an absolute demand for a truce.
Iran is assured the first strikes by Israel were mounted with total Washington understanding and collaboration, making trust challenging to reestablish.
Dialogue Remains the Primary Solution
Araghchi stated: "Tehran was not the one that had fled dialogue; it was the United States and the western countries that had always tried to dictate their desires during the negotiations. Negotiations can still be active and stays the final solution to address disputes, but its standards, guidelines and principles must be adhered to."
"Provided that they address to the citizens of Tehran with the language of dignity and respect, they will get a answer in the same language."
Repair and Recovery
In what is portrayed by Tehran representatives as the battle of recovery and recovery, the foreign minister stated he was certain Iran's defence capabilities "have significantly improved than before 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been reestablished. We acquired numerous insights from this conflict; we have discovered our internal vulnerabilities and the weaknesses of the enemy."
He added: "We managed to survive this engagement. Our nuclear technology, which they planned to eliminate, continues to exist. The facilities and gear, if destroyed, will be rebuilt; what is essential is the determination of the nation of Iran and then the social solidarity that they sought to undermine, but did not succeed to shatter. The Iranian people have become more powerful, more cohesive, and more supportive of the administration and the state in the face of this assault."
