The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl containing multiple personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, while other scenes depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the waiting room have large flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, since every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
