The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
